I believe, with a passion, that the children’s time with us should be some of the happiest of their lives and that they should have an outstanding education. As Headteacher, it is a privilege working with a nurturing and highly qualified team of teachers and support staff, who each day strive to inspire children to excellence and bring learning to life. Together with the Governors of the school, we continually challenge ourselves to improve so that we provide the absolute best for our children.

Hannah Mace | Reception Class Teacher & Infant Site Leader
As Year R Class Teacher I am responsible for supporting the children in settling into school and ensuring that they have the best possible start to their learning journey. Through working with the children as a whole class, individually and in small groups I am able to get to know each child as a unique individual and provide them with the necessary support and challenge to ensure they become happy and enthusiastic learners.

Richard Thackray | Year 1 Class Teacher
As a mature entrant to teaching, I have been fortunate to work in schools in London and Hereford, which have exposed me to a wonderfully diverse range of children and learning needs. I am already hugely enjoying the nurturing ethos of Western Downland.
While I have a passion for both words and numbers, which I hope enthuses my own teaching, I am also picking up curriculum responsibilities for Geography and History, and am looking forward to working with the whole school team to creatively develop these areas of our learning, linking them into other areas of the curriculum.

Clare Worsfold | Year 2 Class Teacher
I started my career in Salisbury, before moving to Surrey to lead music in a large primary school. Following my move back to the South Coast with my husband, I joined Western Downland to work part time after having my sons.

I have recently completed my Forest School Leader training. The forest school ethos is something that I am incredibly passionate about. Lucy Nicholls | Learning Support Assistant
My daughters came to this school 11 years ago and I was involved from the start, as a ‘Mummy Helper’ and an active member of the Friends until I began working in a Teaching Assistant capacity at the Junior site 5 years ago.

I teach the music curriculum to Reception, Class, Years 1,2,4,5 & 6 through learning songs, musical games, listening and responding to a wide range of
music, playing instruments, composing, rehearsing and performing.
I support the staff and children with the Spring music concert, Variety show, musical productions and church celebrations. I also run the Junior Choir after school on Tuesdays.

As a qualified secondary school teacher, my aim is to show the children that language learning not only can be fun but it also increases critical thinking skills, creativity and flexibility of mind. I like to encourage a positive attitude to learning a foreign language and prepare the children to approach secondary school language lessons with enthusiasm.

I look after the finance and HR for the whole school, and I am the admin officer for the Rockbourne site.
I live in Salisbury with my husband and two children, and in my spare time I am a volunteer in the Sea Cadets.

Martin Reed | Art Director
For me teaching is all about the 25-30 hearts and minds that I have the opportunity to shape and care for everyday. It’s so rewarding to know that for a small part of a child’s life, I have the potential to make a big difference. As the children are my inspiration for teaching, I asked them what their thoughts about what a teacher should be. They said someone who is kind, friendly, creative, resilient, fair, helpful, amazing and has a smile on their face. I hope that I can be these qualities for the children who come through my class.
