My Happy Mind

We are proud to be a myHappymind school. myHappymind is an NHS-backed programme designed to help children understand how their brains work and to develop the skills and habits they need to be their very best selves.

At Western Downland CE VA Primary School, myHappymind supports the development of a positive mental wellbeing culture, helping children to build resilience, self-esteem, confidence, and strong character. The programme is grounded in the latest research in science and psychology and supports children to develop lifelong habits that enable them to thrive.

Teaching and Learning

myHappymind is taught across the whole school from Early Years to Year 6 through weekly sessions. Each year group follows a tailored version of the curriculum, with Year 6 having a specific focus on transition to secondary school.

The programme is structured around five key modules:

  • Meet Your Brain
Learning how the brain works and how to look after it so we can manage our emotions and perform at our best. Developing a growth mindset is a key focus of this module.

  • Celebrate
Understanding and celebrating individual character strengths, supporting confidence and positive self-esteem.

  • Appreciate
Learning why gratitude matters and how to develop it as a habit, supporting wellbeing and resilience.

  • Relate
Understanding the importance of positive relationships and learning how to build strong friendships.

  • Engage
Setting meaningful goals, developing perseverance, and staying resilient during times of challenge.
